Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Online Course

Two years ago, I decided to take the eight-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course. Our group (about 18 people) met every Tuesday night in a nondescript office park, but when we entered that room it felt like everyone’s shoulders went down about two inches. Our lovely teacher created an intimate space where we all practiced (through various exercises — some fun, some tough) strengthening our awareness, sharing our thoughts, or simply just being. Community can be so powerful, however, if you have been putting off taking this course because of the ongoing commitment to being in a certain place at a certain time, you now have an online option. And, yes, you are still getting the community component!

One of my favorite companies, Sounds True, is offering the course led by Dr. Saki Santorelli, Director of the Stress Reduction Clinic (founded in 1979 by U.S. meditation and mindfulness pioneer Jon Kabat-Zinn) and executive director of the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He is also the author of Heal Thy Self: Lessons on Mindfulness in Medicine. Co-leading the workshop is Florence Meleo-Meyer, a senior MBSR teacher and a member of the executive leadership team for the Center for Mindfulness. These two powerhouse instructors will be taking you through 16 hours of downloadable video and audio, four hours of mindfulness practices, a self-guided retreat, and several other “bonus” audios and giveaways. You can enjoy the program on your own schedule.

For some of you wondering whether it’s right for you, it might be helpful to know that MBSR is a secular, scientific, evidence-based practice that is a part of mainstream medicine at this point. For others, your main concern might be prevention, managing pain, and stress reduction. And for some, you just want the tools to be more present and feel more positive. All are welcome! Think of this as a serious investment in your well-being that you can always come back to … again, and again.

Here’s a link to a detailed description of the structure and flow of the program! Cost for program is $197.
