There’s a new destination to add to your list. The new 1 Hotels brand, helmed by renown hotel veteran Barry Sternlicht, opened this month in Miami’s South Beach. Now, before visions of decadent excess start to cloud your mind, let me be very clear: this hotel — in their own words — is on a mission to “re-invent the industry standard for socially responsible hospitality.” What does that mean? 1 Hotels wants to walk its talk, and that means offering guests eco-minded luxury. From the gorgeous woods used in rooms and common spaces to fresh, locally sourced foods, down to details like bedding and bath amenities, the goal is to create an environment that is thoughtful, pure, and exquisite. And, yes, there’s quite a bit of fun to get up to as well. Their focus is on “daylife” vs. “nightlife,” by offering guests curated adventures designed by hotel location. (Two new locations will open in New York City this spring/summer.) Nice bonus for zen seekers: the hotel provides private guided meditation sessions in addition to in-room meditation videos.
