This week I went to a special movement studio called CitrAyus. Located in my favorite Parisian neighborhood, Le Marais, owner Karen Law‘s elegant, minimal space soothes and inspires. The class I went to, led by the lovely and soulful Michelle Pozen, is called “Miracle Monday.” The class combines movement, meditation, oracle cards, and a deep sense of spirituality. This needs to be on my weekly rotation.
I sometimes forget how powerful it is to sit in a space with others and dive deep. Michelle led us through breathing exercises, spine rotations, and moments of stillness and reflection. At the end of the session, we got an extra treat, or as Michelle calls it, “dessert!” She brought out the Love Your Inner Goddess Oracle Card deck, by Alana Fairchild. Each one of us picked a card, then Michelle read our individual card’s meaning.
I picked the Beautiful Bandit. Here’s some of that card’s wisdom: “You can choose right now to feel good about yourself. If you have been beating yourself up, stop it now. Don’t let anyone else decide how you should feel about yourself…You are one tough sweetheart, a spiritual gangster, a beautiful bandit, stealing back from the unworthy that which rightfully belongs with you.”
And the author’s (Alana Fairchild) interpretation: “This is such an important message; I feel like it speaks directly to me. And I bet it speaks to you too. Taking up space. Expressing every aspect of your Being. Embracing yourself, your divine feminine energy and your worth. Seeing your value. Kicking ass at being so amazingly you.”
First of all, I’m loving the whole “spiritual gangster” vibe! But, seriously, what this card says to me is always check in with myself when I feel that I’m comparing and despairing, or letting people drain my energy. There’s a difference between being inspired and feeling like you have to “keep up!” Let’s motivate ourselves based on what makes us tick, not what the person in the other lane is doing, okay?
Some people are very committed to astrological readings, tarot, and similar mediums and disciplines, while others are not. I feel that all of these things help us to understand the bigger “why?” in our daily lives. They can be seen as guideposts, subtle signs, or even roadmaps.
Wherever you are on this belief spectrum is fine. Some in our group were on board, while others were happy to sit back and take it all in. I will say that at the end of the session our discussion wove in themes of life, death, family, religion, and more. It felt great to be a part of this discussion and this vibrant community.
I am always humbled by the knowledge that no matter where you go, you will always find your tribe. And, hopefully, a lot of laughter.
Thank you to Karen and Michelle for opening up yet another special place in this incredible city. And the Love Your Inner Goddess Oracle Card deck, by Alana Fairchild.
