As we move into the holiday season, I wanted to share an easy way to relax and get centered at the end of each day. November typically ushers in the season of “to-do” list mania. Planning holiday dinners, travel, buying presents, activities, parties, and anything else that comes up. It can be overwhelming. And stressful. And snuff the holiday cheer right out of you. Here’s my prescription to preempt holiday burn-out: take some time for yourself. Do you feel like at this time of year you are constantly “on” and giving and giving? Remember to give a little something to yourself, okay? Everyone (and most importantly, you!) will be happier!
My new favorite ritual is to wind down each evening with a hot shower with geranium essential oil. 4-6 drops in the shower is all you need. This is a simple, low maintenance ritual. I’ll admit that organic geranium oil is not cheap. (Except, if you are a member of Thrive Market.) But it’s worth every penny and will last.
Aside from being used for thousands of years as a beauty oil for radiant skin, geranium oil is also anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, great for muscle cramps, and skin rashes. It is also known as a wonderful hormone balancer and natural antidepressant. Love that. So essential to have in our toolkit.
Geranium oil has a magical way of relaxing you and promoting a sense of contentment. For an added bonus I also use Dr. Bronner’s Lavender body wash. The combination of the geranium and lavender is fantastic. It’s that “spa-like” smell that just puts you at ease and makes you feel good.
I might add that, for me, this is a short ritual. Five minutes is all I need to help me start to shift gears and power down for the night. Try it! You can also use a diffuser for the oil, which also works wonders. Choose the method that works best for you … and then savor all the benefits.
