Welcome to this week’s digest. Are your stay-at-home restrictions gradually easing? Still in place? We’re all somewhere on the spectrum. As we watch what seems like phase 2 of “the pause,” here’s a quote from the mystic poet Rumi to ponder, “Do not worry that your life is turning upside down. How do you know that the side you are used to is better than the one to come?” Here’s this week’s list:
As more talk this week centers on guestimates at a timeline for vaccines, another big issue is how we as a society will need to pull together to help contain the spread. From wearing masks to social distancing, what can behavioral science tell us about how we’ll be able to contain the coronavirus?
The holy grail of face masks are ones that can both filter and destroy bacteria and viruses. Bonus if they are reusable. Copper, with its antimicrobial properties and ability to kill the Covid-19 virus within four hours, seems to be a key ingredient. Find out more about face masks 2.0.
Worried if you’re getting enough protein? Don’t forget about plant-based meat alternatives. Check out this guide to give you some ideas.
My recent trips to go food shopping are, sadly, never about lingering but well-timed efficiency. (And throwing the occasional evil-eye to those who insist on talking on their phones. I digress.) I usually grab my tried and true extra virgin olive oil and move on. However, as a lover of olive oil, perhaps I should up my game. This list is great!
Everyone has their own idea of comfort food. Mine usually involves rice. Throw some leeks and peas in there and it’s a party with this easy risotto recipe. To pancetta or not to pancetta is a personal decision but always remember that you can use bacon… or keep it vegetarian. Can’t go wrong.
Don’t forget to breathe! Headspace is a meditation app, and they have some great breathing exercises. Curious? There’s a free one-minute exercise on their homepage.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Mental Health America is a community-based, non-profit focused on promoting mental well-being through outreach and programs.
Looking for new face masks? Lapcos has a great variety. I love the Seaweed (purifying) and Pearl (brightening) ones. Love the package design!

JOIE DE VIVRE!
1. Listen: On Being’s Krista Tippett interviewing poet/writer Ocean Vuong, A Life Worthy of Our Breath. This is definitely on my top 10 interviews list.
3. Watch: Maggie Smith‘s best quotes as the Dowager Countess on Downton Abbey. Beyond hilarious.
